IGP Egbetokun Launches Special Task Force to Bolster Security

Date:

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, introduced the recently inaugurated Special Intervention Squad (SIS) on Monday with the aim of bolstering security throughout Nigeria.

During the presentation of the SIS, IGP Egbetokun emphasized that ensuring public safety and upholding law enforcement to protect lives and property is a challenging responsibility that requires collaborative efforts.

Egbetokun acknowledged the ongoing confrontation between the forces of good and evil, disguised in various forms, but expressed the unwavering determination of the Nigerian Police to combat crime.

He stated, “As we carry out our duties diligently, we urge everyone to choose the path of peace and refrain from violence, recognizing that ensuring public safety is a joint endeavour.”

In recent developments, the IGP launched the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a significant step towards strengthening security. Through collaborative efforts with the Department of Force Intelligence – Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT), the FCT Command Anti-Violent Crimes Section, Anti-kidnapping Section, and other State Commands, the Squad has achieved notable success. They have apprehended sixteen (16) notorious criminals and recovered a significant cache of weapons, including a general-purpose machine gun (GPMG).

Among the individuals paraded on Saturday were Idris Ishaku, Bala Umar, and Dahiru Salisu, three (3) kidnappers based in Bwari. They have been involved in numerous armed robbery cases and kidnappings in the Bwari Local Government Area and other parts of the FCT.

Additionally, the combined team of operatives has arrested thirteen (13) suspects involved in various other crimes.

One of the accomplishments worth mentioning is the prevention of another kidnapping incident through technical intelligence, leading to the arrest of the aforementioned kidnappers in Bwari and the recovery of weapons from them.
