Local Council Launches N250 Million Empowerment Initiative

Date:

The Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area in Lagos State has recently introduced a substantial empowerment program worth N250 million. The initiative aims to support women, students, and underprivileged individuals residing within the council.

Rasak Ajala, the Chairman of the LCDA and Secretary-General of Conference 57, expressed the council’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents. In a statement released on Thursday, Ajala highlighted his personal experience of poverty during his early years and emphasized the significance of giving back to society.

The N250 million fund will be allocated to various beneficiaries based on their specific needs. The youth will have the opportunity to participate in competitions, while students can engage in quiz and debate competitions. Women will receive grants, and small and medium-scale businesses can benefit from a loan facility. Additionally, the council will provide subsidized chicken to vulnerable individuals, making it more accessible at a reduced cost of N2,500, as opposed to its market price of N6,000. Similar support was extended during the Ileya festival when rams were subsidized.

Addressing the issue of security, the LCDA chairman stated that his administration had made significant efforts to enhance safety in the area. Notably, infrastructure improvements have transformed previously impassable roads into motorable ones. The chairman highlighted the successful resolution of historical rivalries between communities such as Fadeyi and Akala, Ilupeju and Olateju, attributing this achievement to the innovative strategies implemented by the council.

Through this comprehensive empowerment scheme and various governance initiatives, the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area aims to foster socio-economic development and uplift the lives of its residents while promoting peace and progress in the community.
