AFCON 2023 – Moses Simon Emphasizes Team Success Over Individual Recognition

Date:

Moses Simon, the talented winger from Nantes, has highlighted the collective success of the team as his top priority, surpassing individual accolades. Following Nigeria’s impressive 1-0 victory over the Palancas Negras of Angola on Friday night, Simon was awarded the Man of the Match title.

Simon played a pivotal role in the triumph, delivering a sublime assist to Ademola Lookman, who scored the winning goal just four minutes before the halftime break. However, Simon expressed that the team’s success took precedence over personal recognition.

“I’m very happy but the most important thing is that we won,” Simon told reporters after the game.

“You can be man of the match and your team loses the game.”

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles are set to face the winner of the match between Cape Verde and South Africa in the semi-finals, scheduled to take place in Bouake next Wednesday.
