The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has shared details of a meeting she had with the late Group CEO of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, just days before his tragic demise. According to Kuku, Wigwe expressed his strong dedication to using his wealth, resources, and expertise for the betterment of humanity.

Kuku disclosed this during a meeting that took place last Tuesday, where Wigwe, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and herself were present. She described Wigwe as a prominent figure in the financial services sector and expressed deep sorrow over his untimely passing.

Wigwe, along with his wife, son, and former Chairman of Nigeria Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbajo, lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the United States on Friday. The news of his tragic death has elicited heartfelt condolences from various notable individuals, including President Bola Tinubu, Rivers State Governor, Simi Fubara, and the management of Access Holdings Plc.

In a statement issued by Kuku on Saturday, titled “Mr. Wigwe will be missed,” she expressed her sadness over the passing of the late Group CEO. The statement read, “On behalf of my family, the entire management, and staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), I extend our heartfelt condolences to the immediate and extended family of the Late Mr. Herbert Wigwe, his beloved wife, and son.”

Kuku further extended her sympathies to the staff and management of Access Holdings Plc, the How Foundation, and the wider banking community. She described the news of their sudden demise as shocking, especially considering her recent meeting with Wigwe in Abuja. During that meeting, which also included Minister Festus Keyamo and several FAAN Directors, Wigwe passionately discussed his aspirations to utilize his considerable wealth, resources, and experience for the betterment of humanity.

Highlighting Wigwe’s status as a luminary in the financial services sector, Kuku emphasized that his absence would be deeply felt. She commended his remarkable legacy of achievements and his significant philanthropic endeavors, which he ardently championed.
