Successful Mock UTME Conducted with Over 260,000 Candidates, Says JAMB Registrar

Date:

Over 260,000 aspiring candidates participated in this year’s Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Mock UTME) held on Thursday, March 7. The examination took place across 793 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers nationwide.

Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, expressed his satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the mock exam after personally monitoring several centers in Abuja.

The purpose of the mock exam was to assess JAMB’s readiness for the main UTME, scheduled to commence on Friday, April 19, 2024. Prof. Oloyede also mentioned that the examination body successfully conducted recruitment exams for the Nigeria Police on Wednesday. He assured that the few incidents recorded during the Mock UTME in a limited number of centers would be promptly resolved.

Regarding the participation statistics, Prof. Oloyede stated that approximately 1.98 million candidates have registered for the main 2024 UTME, while over 260,000 candidates took part in the mock exam. He emphasized that the mock exam was intentionally limited in registration numbers to avoid it becoming another full-fledged examination and instead serve its purpose as a system test.

Prof. Oloyede affirmed that JAMB was fully prepared to ensure a smooth conduct of the main exam. He also mentioned the deployment of new mechanisms to further strengthen the examination system. He expressed his satisfaction, stating that the internal revolution JAMB had been working towards for the past six to seven years had been successfully achieved.

The JAMB Registrar revealed that the results of the Mock UTME would be released either on Thursday evening or Friday. Additionally, Damilola Bamiro, the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) consultant at JAMB, highlighted the establishment of JAMB’s Situation Room, which facilitated real-time interaction between the examination centers and JAMB to swiftly address any issues that arose during the exam.
