Suspected Troublemakers Apprehended at Labour Party Convention Venue

Date:

In a significant turn of events at the ongoing national convention of the Labour Party held at the Grand Seasons Hotel in Nnewi, Anambra State, law enforcement authorities have apprehended five individuals believed to be connected to disruptive activities.

The arrested individuals were allegedly engaged in the distribution of provocative pamphlets criticizing the party’s leadership within the convention premises.

Following thorough questioning and investigation, the detained individuals have been subsequently transferred to the police headquarters for further inquiries. They stand accused of attempting to instigate unrest and disturbance amidst the ongoing convention proceedings.

Coinciding with this development, restrictions have been imposed on journalists, preventing their access to the convention venue. Despite efforts made to acquire entry credentials from the party’s spokesperson, Obiorah Ifoh, requests for journalist access were declined.

According to insider sources, the motives of these criminal elements and their backers revolved around creating chaos and destabilizing the convention. In response, party leaders have taken proactive measures to carefully manage and control the dissemination of information, ensuring the avoidance of unnecessary political tensions.

Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the February 2023 general elections, had not yet arrived at the convention venue at the time of reporting.
