Godwin Emefiele, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been granted bail of N300 million after being arraigned on charges related to the unauthorized printing of new naira notes. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought forth the four-count charge against him.

Pleading not guilty to the charges, Emefiele appeared before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama. As the sole defendant in the case, he faces stringent conditions for his bail, including the provision of two sureties who each possess titled property within the Maitama area of the FCT. Additionally, Emefiele is required to deposit his travel documents with the court and obtain court permission for any international travel.

These conditions mirror those set forth in a previous bail granted by Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the FCT, under whom Emefiele faces another criminal case. Justice Anenih accepted the CTCs of documents previously submitted by Emefiele as sufficient for this bail condition. The trial is set to commence on May 28.
