The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued 383 women and children who were abducted by terrorists and insurgents in Sambisa Forest, Borno State. These individuals, who had been held captive for a decade, were liberated during a recent operation by the troops. The acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Abubakar Haruna, made this announcement during a visit to frontline troops in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. The troops were commended for their efforts in dislodging Boko Haram insurgents from the forest and clearing several insurgents’ enclaves within the area. The GOC declared a 10-day operation, named “Operation Desert Sanity III,” to sustain the onslaught against the remaining insurgents in the forest. He expressed confidence that more insurgents would surrender in the coming days. The troops were praised for their professionalism and sacrifice, with special acknowledgment given to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, for his support. The Theatre Commander of the Northeast Operation Hadin Kai’s Joint Task Force, Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, was also recognized for his strategic guidance and supervision.
