In a significant turn of events, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdulsalam, publicly expressed regret and issued a formal apology to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu. This gesture comes in the wake of Abdulsalam’s earlier claim implicating Ribadu in facilitating the return of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, to the city.

Addressing the press late Sunday at the Government House in Kano, Abdulsalam acknowledged his previous statements and admitted to being misled by erroneous information. He had previously asserted that Ribadu arranged for two aircraft to transport Bayero back to Kano in the early hours of Saturday.

However, subsequent developments, including denials from the NSA’s office and legal threats from Ribadu through his lawyer, prompted Abdulsalam to reassess the situation. He now concedes that Ribadu was not involved in the events surrounding Bayero’s return.

“The office of the National Security Adviser NSA has refuted the allegations and distanced themselves from what we have alleged,” Abdulsalam stated. “We have further information (on the matter). There is nothing we can say than to apologise to the person and the office on behalf of the governor and government of Kano State for any embarrassment or inconvenience that might cause him.”

The deputy governor reiterated his commitment to cooperating with Ribadu and pledged continued support for the NSA in fulfilling his duties effectively.

The apology signifies a shift in the narrative and underscores the complexities of the political landscape. Abdulsalam’s acknowledgment of misinformation and his willingness to rectify the situation reflect a sense of accountability and commitment to the truth.
