Authorities Confiscate 85 Motorcycles in Lagos Crackdown

Date:

In a recent operation conducted by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command, a total of 85 motorcycles, commonly known as okada, were seized in various locations across the state.

Led by RRS Commander CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, the operation received valuable support from the enforcement team of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).

According to an official statement released by the RRS, the joint effort between the Rapid Response Squad and LAMATA Enforcement Team resulted in the impoundment of 85 motorcycles, as part of the ongoing crackdown on motorbikes operating on prohibited routes within the state. The areas targeted during the operation included Ojodu Berger, Aguda (Ikeja), Iju Road, Agege, Iyana Ipaja Bridge, Abule Egba, and Ogba.

This recent operation follows a similar initiative two weeks ago, spearheaded by Commander CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, which led to the confiscation of 257 motorcycles. The Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, affirmed that the enforcement efforts would persist until compliance is achieved.

In a related development, the Lagos State Task Force recently took action against commercial motorcycles and squatters who had erected shanties along the rail tracks in the Fagba area. As part of the follow-up exercise subsequent to the inauguration of the Red Line Rail project, 359 bikes were impounded, and several shanties were demolished. Task Force Chairman CSP Shola Jejeloye has intensified the enforcement of the motorcycle ban across Lagos, as the state government prioritizes the safety of major highways.

It is evident that the authorities in Lagos are committed to maintaining order and ensuring the safety of residents by cracking down on motorcycles operating in unauthorized areas and enforcing the ban on commercial motorcycle operations.
