Ajoni Local Government Youth Group has appealed for Road Repairs and Enhanced Aerial Surveillance

Ajoni Local Government Youth Group, a prominent youth organization, has raised concerns regarding the prevailing insecurity in the region following the tragic attack on two revered traditional rulers along the Oke Ako-Irele Road earlier this year. The group is calling for increased security measures, including the deployment of surveillance helicopters, to ensure the safety and well-being of the community and the entire state.

In an unfortunate incident on January 29, armed bandits ambushed three traditional rulers along the Irele-Oke Ako Road, resulting in the loss of two lives: Oba David Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, and Oba Olatunde Olusola, the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti. Fortunately, the third monarch, Oba Sunday Fatoba, the Alara of Ara (Ikole), managed to escape unharmed. The police have since apprehended an individual named Babuga Lede, who is currently on trial for his alleged involvement in the conspiracy to kidnap, attempted murder, and murder of the two esteemed monarchs.

Emmanuel Olu, Chairman of the Association of Local Government Youth Development (ALGOYID), has addressed a letter to the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced security measures. Olu specifically suggests deploying helicopters or drones for aerial surveillance of the expansive forests in the area. Such measures, he argues, would significantly contribute to the early detection of any suspicious activities and effectively prevent further attacks.

The youth group also highlights the pressing need for infrastructure development, particularly the repair of roads and the elimination of hazardous sections that criminals have exploited. Specifically, they draw attention to the damaged portions along Ayedun-Irele Road, stressing the importance of prompt repairs to ensure the safety of community members and travelers.

In addition to their security and infrastructure concerns, the group fervently appeals for a thorough investigation into the heinous crime and urges Governor Oyebanji to ensure that justice is served. They firmly believe that identifying and apprehending the perpetrators will provide closure and justice for the lives lost.

Recognizing the critical role of traditional rulers in community stability, the youth group advocates for enhanced security measures for these esteemed figures. Their proposal includes providing each monarch with a Toyota Hilux vehicle and assigning two armed police officers as their official security detail, thereby fortifying their safety.

The group commends Governor Oyebanji for the swift deployment of troops to aid the security personnel’s efforts in combating the criminals hiding in the forests and bushes across the state. They express their appreciation for the ongoing actions taken to restore peace and security in the community, while urging the government to sustain these efforts.

By voicing their concerns and proposing comprehensive solutions, Ajoni Local Government Youth Group aims to foster a safer environment and promote the well-being of their community and the entire state.
