Federal Government Declares Friday and Monday as Public Holidays for Easter Celebrations

Date:

Lagos, Nigeria – The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, March 29, 2024, and Monday, April 1, 2024, as public holidays to commemorate the 2024 Good Friday and Easter Monday celebrations. This decision aims to honor the religious significance of Easter and provide citizens with an opportunity for reflection, worship, and family time.

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conveyed this announcement on behalf of the government. In his statement, he urged both Christians and all Nigerians to emulate the profound sacrifice and love exemplified by Jesus Christ during His crucifixion – a pivotal event in Christian theology. Beyond its religious context, Easter symbolizes values that resonate universally: love, forgiveness, and compassion.

Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized that Easter transcends religious boundaries. It serves as a reminder of our shared humanity and the importance of fostering unity, reducing conflicts, and encouraging cooperation among Nigerians. These virtues, he asserted, have the potential to positively impact our nation’s socio-economic development.

In alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Tinubu, Minister Tunji-Ojo called upon Nigerians to extend acts of charity and generosity. By helping alleviate the material conditions of the less privileged, citizens can actively contribute to a more compassionate and equitable society.

As we approach the Easter weekend, Minister Tunji-Ojo’s message resonates: “While wishing Christians at home and abroad a happy and blissful Easter celebration, let us join hands with President Tinubu-led administration in its determination to bring sustainable development and usher in prosperity for all.”

This declaration underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a harmonious society, where love, forgiveness, and compassion prevail. As Nigerians come together to observe these public holidays, may the spirit of Easter inspire us toward collective prosperity and a brighter future.
