The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that 24,535 candidates will need to retake their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This directive follows the release of 3,921 additional results that had been previously withheld due to various complications, including allegations of examination malpractice and technical issues.

JAMB’s registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, emphasized that the board is committed to maintaining the integrity and credibility of the UTME process. The board has undertaken a thorough screening of withheld results to address concerns regarding exam misconduct and procedural errors. Of the 1,904,189 candidates who sat for the exam, a significant number of 64,624 results were initially withheld for further investigation.

The recent release of 3,921 results brings the total number of results released to 1,842,897. However, JAMB continues to meticulously scrutinize the remaining withheld results to resolve any discrepancies and ensure fairness for all candidates. This ongoing review process is crucial to uphold the examination’s standards and transparency.

Candidates who are required to retake the UTME are advised to stay informed through official JAMB communications and to prepare thoroughly for the rescheduled exams. This measure highlights JAMB’s dedication to a transparent and accountable examination process, ensuring that every candidate has an equitable opportunity to showcase their academic abilities.

The need for retakes underscores JAMB’s rigorous approach to addressing and mitigating any factors that could compromise the integrity of the UTME. By implementing these corrective measures, JAMB aims to reinforce the credibility of the examination process and to maintain the trust of all stakeholders in Nigeria’s educational system.
