La Liga President Javier Tebas has expressed his desire to see Mason Greenwood extend his stay in Spain beyond the current season. Greenwood, a product of the Manchester United academy, faced a setback in January 2022 when he was arrested on charges of rape, controlling behavior, and assault. However, these charges were later dropped.

Following the incident, Manchester United made the decision that Greenwood should continue his career elsewhere, leading to his loan move to Getafe in September of that year. Despite facing criticism in Spain and enduring jeers from rival supporters, Greenwood has thrived on the pitch for Getafe. He has impressed with his performances, scoring seven goals in 25 appearances across various competitions.

Greenwood’s impressive displays have reportedly caught the attention of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, and it is believed that the young forward would prefer to remain in Spain rather than return to Manchester United next season.

The immediate future of Greenwood remains uncertain, but it seems that La Liga President Tebas would welcome the prospect of Greenwood staying in Spain and establishing himself there as a prominent player.

‘I am a lawyer, if someone has come out of a legal case innocent, there is nothing to say. He is innocent,’ he said.
“He is another exceptional player, and although the circumstances surrounding his arrival may not have been ideal, he is thriving at Getafe and I hope he continues to achieve success and remains a part of Spanish football.

The reputation of individuals should be respected, and as a lawyer, I believe in honoring legal decisions. It is important to refrain from speculating or engaging in discussions that cast doubt on his innocence, especially when he has not been convicted of any wrongdoing. We must respect the legal process.

Similar situations have occurred in Spain before, and it is crucial to handle them with fairness and respect for the legal system.”
