Manchester United’s Mainoo Frustrated by Draw Against Liverpool

Date:

Kobbie Mainoo expressed his disappointment with Manchester United’s draw against rivals Liverpool, stating that it left a “bad taste” in his mouth.

Mainoo believes that United needs to improve their ability to “see out games” after being held to a thrilling 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

The match saw Liverpool take the lead through Luis Diaz, but United quickly equalized with a spectacular 45-yard strike from Bruno Fernandes early in the second half. Mainoo then scored his first senior goal at Old Trafford, giving United the lead in the 67th minute. However, a late penalty converted by Mohamed Salah ensured that the match ended in a draw.

Reflecting on his goal, the 18-year-old United academy graduate expressed his excitement, describing it as an “unbelievable” moment. However, Mainoo couldn’t ignore the fact that the team failed to secure all three points, which dampened his overall satisfaction.

The draw against Liverpool marked the third time in nine days that United had relinquished a late lead. This came after a 1-1 draw with Brentford and a surprising 4-3 defeat against Chelsea, where United had been leading until stoppage time.

Despite the frustration, Mainoo acknowledged the positives from the match against Liverpool, particularly the team’s improved performance in the second half. He emphasized the importance of seeing out games to accumulate points and climb higher in the table.

Mainoo’s goal against Liverpool was another milestone in his impressive breakthrough campaign. Having made his first Premier League start in November, he has also earned a full England debut, including a standout performance against Belgium where he was named the man of the match.

Reflecting on his season so far, Mainoo expressed his enjoyment and gratitude for the opportunity to play for his boyhood club on such a grand stage. He acknowledged the challenges but remained optimistic about his adaptation to the team and the support from the fans.

Mainoo’s comments highlight the need for Manchester United to address their late-game struggles and focus on securing victories to achieve their goals.
