French football sensation Kylian Mbappe, 25, has once again secured the prestigious Ligue 1 Player of the Year award at the UNFP (French players’ union) Trophies gala. This marks his fifth consecutive win, a testament to his exceptional talent and consistent performance throughout the season. Mbappe’s outstanding achievements include an impressive tally of 44 goals across all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Amidst speculation about his future, Mbappe recently confirmed his departure from PSG at the end of the campaign, with Real Madrid emerging as the likely destination for the French captain. As he bid farewell to PSG fans in his final home game, Mbappe showcased his prowess by scoring in a match against Toulouse, despite PSG suffering an unexpected 3-1 defeat.
Mbappe’s dominance in Ligue 1 is evident as he leads the goal-scoring charts with 27 goals, a remarkable feat that places him eight goals ahead of his closest competitor, Jonathan David of Lille. With two more Ligue 1 fixtures remaining and the French Cup final against Lyon on May 25, Mbappe’s remarkable season is far from over.
The award, voted for by fellow players and presented by Marie-Jose Perec, Olympic champion in 200m and 400m, saw Mbappe surpass other nominees, including his PSG teammate Ousmane Dembele and notable players such as Pierre Lees-Melou, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Edon Zhegrova.
PSG’s dominance extended beyond Mbappe’s individual recognition, with teenage midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery clinching the Young Player of the Season award, and Gianluigi Donnarumma named the Best Goalkeeper. Additionally, Eric Roy of Brest received the Coach of the Year accolade for guiding the modest club to European qualification for the first time in their history, securing at least a fifth-place finish in Ligue 1.
