Bandits launched a brazen attack on Thursday night at the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, Okene, in Kogi State, Nigeria, resulting in the abduction of several students. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, armed and numbering unknown, infiltrated the university premises around 9 PM while students were studying for upcoming exams.
The bandits, arriving through the bushes, stormed three lecture halls, firing shots into the air to create panic among the students. Trapping them inside the halls, the assailants proceeded to abduct students, causing chaos and confusion throughout the campus. Though security personnel engaged the bandits, their swift actions prevented further escalation, confining the attack to the initial three halls.
Students preparing for their first-semester examinations, scheduled to commence on Monday, May 13, found themselves thrust into a terrifying ordeal as the bandits struck unexpectedly. Some students, seeking refuge, fled into nearby bushes, hiding for over an hour until the situation calmed.
When contacted, the Vice Chancellor of CUSTEC, Prof. Abdulraman Asipita, confirmed the incident but declined to provide specific details regarding the number of abducted students. Despite efforts to reach the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bethrand Onuoha, and the State Security Adviser, Retired Cdre Jerry Omodara, for comment, no response was received.
