South Africa and Chad Recall Diplomats from Israel

Date:

In response to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, South Africa and Chad have made the decision to recall their diplomats from Israel. This move comes as a strong condemnation of Israel’s military operation and a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Condemnation of civilian casualties: Both South Africa and Chad have expressed deep concern over the loss of innocent civilian lives during the conflict. They have called for an immediate ceasefire and a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian issue.

Solidarity with the Palestinian people: South Africa’s decision to recall its diplomats aligns with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s pledge of solidarity with the Palestinian people. The ruling party, African National Congress, has previously drawn parallels between Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories and South Africa’s apartheid regime.

Displeasure with the Israeli ambassador’s remarks: The South African government has taken issue with the Israeli ambassador to South Africa’s disparaging remarks about those who oppose the Israeli government’s actions. This has further contributed to the decision to recall diplomats and potentially take additional action against the Israeli ambassador.

Consultation and briefing: The recalled diplomats will provide a comprehensive briefing to their respective governments. Following this, the governments will assess whether they can be of assistance and determine the sustainability of their relationship with Israel.

International support: South Africa and Chad join several other countries, including Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Honduras, Jordan, Bahrain, and Turkey, in recalling their top envoys from Israel. This collective action sends a strong signal of disapproval towards the ongoing conflict.
